FO condemns drone attack in NWA

(eNews.pk) - ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office Spokesperson Moazzam. A. Khan Sunday condemned a US drone strike in Miranshah in the strongest of words saying such violations of international laws are only adding to trust deficit between the two allies, Geo news reported.




Reportedly, at least four people were killed and several others injured when an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) most likely a Predator drone fired missiles at a house in North Waziristan Agency.
During a press briefing at Foreign office, Khan said that such attacks were not only counterproductive but they also violate Pakistan’s sovereignty, adding the sovereignty of the country could not be compromised.
Khan further said that the missile attacks were raising hurdles in the war against terror as they were in fact winning sympathies for the militants.
Earlier, tribal sources said the drone fired two missiles that hit a house near the main bazaar in Miramshah, the headquarters of North Waziristan.
The house immediately caught fire making it difficult for the tribesmen to start rescue work. Also, three drones were flying in the area after the missile attack and the tribesmen feared another attack.
However, the locals later extinguished the fire and retrieved four bodies and rescued three injured persons. The injured were taken to the Agency Headquarters Hospital in Miramshah town where the doctors reported them to be in a stable condition.
Tribal sources said that the bodies of the slain men were burnt beyond recognition. There was no way to ascertain the identity of those killed. It was after a long interval that US drones had attacked a target in North Waziristan.
