Rihanna sets personal chart record
SAN FRANSISCO: Rihanna's "We Found Love" has just lodged its 10th non-consecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, which makes this the longest run of her career at the tally's pole position.
Beyonce was the last female to have a single peak at 10 weeks. She did it in 2006 with "Irreplaceable."
If "We Found Love" (featuring Calvin Harris) holds on to the top-ranked slot for another week, Rihanna will match previous records set by Puff Daddy and Faith Evans' "I'll Be Missing You" and Toni Braxton's "Un-Break My Heart." (Monitoring Desk)

Chanel flies couture sky-high
PARIS: Chanel flew the fashion crowd sky-high on Tuesday, conjuring up a life-sized plane as the runway for an all-blue spring collection as it headlined day two of the Paris haute couture shows.
Stewards walked the length of the central aisle, offering champagne to Chanel's guests as they took their seats in the model aircraft, purpose-built inside the Grand Palais exhibition hall.
"After the red carpet, the blue carpet," the house's silver-haired designer Karl Lagerfeld, in trademark black suit and shades, quipped to reporters.
"I love the plane," said the globe-trotting couturier. "There's nothing I find more relaxing. Your neighbours are stuck to their screens, there are no phones -- it's blissfully peaceful."
Dim-lit, with "Exit" signs, images of fluffy clouds overhead and a cockpit at one end, the aircraft was carpeted with a Chanel monogram, and its seats swivelled round to offer a full view of the runway.
"Pretty cool, right!" smiled the actress Diane Kruger as she took her seat.
Lagerfeld used no fewer than 154 shades of blue for a look defined by wide, soft chimney collars, puffed sleeves, linear silhouettes and low waistlines.
"Blue is a palette all in itself," he said, "the colour of air, of the sky, or the eyes of a little cat" -- like the one he was recently given as a gift.
Chanel's first model wore a sky blue short-sleeved dress, cut just above the knee with hands thrust into deep pockets.
Her hair was pulled into a huge backcombed crest shooting skyward, and her only jewellery was long sparking pendant earrings.
A succession of day suits followed with subtle sequin embroidery, in tones of navy, royal or pale blue -- and glittering heels to match each exact shade.
Come evening time, and with each dress, the fabrics grew more intriguing and the glittering embroidery richer -- with intricate patterns sometimes repeated just below the hem on the model's tights.
Jewel-encrusted dresses rustled as the last few models walked, and for the finale there was a wedding dress with a twist: with fully embroidered bodice, and ice-blue train stopping at the knee.
Later at Giorgio Armani, the first cheers went to the US actress Jessica Chastain, as she found out live that she was nominated for an Oscar as best supporting actress for "The Help."
Did Chastain spot something to wear up the red carpet next month?
Quite possibly -- if she is planning to go in green: the couture collection sent out by Armani Prive feted vivid greens in all their glory, from aniseed to apple, weaving in a subtle reptilian-theme.
Cupped petals of layered silk, like the soft folds of a lily, defined the achingly graceful look unveiled by Stephane Rolland.
The French designer's latest hymn to the female form, all in ivory and black, with gold accents and flashes of red and lime green, earned him warm applause during the show, and a rock star crush of well-wishers backstage afterwards.
Cut from creamy silk crepe or chiffon, the pure-lined, floor-length dresses skimmed the figure like petals curling around a stem, many with billowing drapes and capes at the back.
Organic, sinuous flounces made from dozens of embroidered layers of gazar curled out at the hip, or down the side of dresses.
Smooth gold tubes circled the waistline or neck, gold plates punctuated draped dresses, and one black gown had golden half moons embroidered in a pattern all down one side.
The run of show-stoppers included an hourglass-shaped gown in white silk jersey, tight down to the knee, then spreading into a compact, fluffy train of red ostrich feathers.
"It feels like walking on water," the young model told AFP as she slipped out of the dress backstage.
Earlier the Paris-based Brazilian Gustavo Lins, took the fashion crowd to Spain via Japan, with a flamenco-inspired collection that drew heavily on the designer's lifelong passion for the kimono.
Lins wove his own ode to womanhood, imagining a "grave, sensual gypsy," clad in drapes both sober and sumptuous.
Eroticism, defined by Lins, is based on "three golden rules: the nude back, bared ankle and hugging waistline."
Onlookers sucked in their breath with each new apparition -- which made generous use of the three cardinal rules -- clapping warmly at the finale.
Deceptively simple scarf dresses were as if wrapped around the body, one in blood red with a simple band of red leather running over one shoulder and baring the other.
Others were all artful drapes and twists, leaving guests craning their necks for a better, longer view of the magic.

‘Underworld Awakening’ tops US box office
LOS ANGELES: "Underworld Awakening," about the exploits of a woman vampire warrior, grabbed top North American box office honors in its opening weekend, industry tracker Exhibitor Relations said Monday.
The 3D film starring Kate Beckinsale garnered $25.3 million at the box office, outmaneuvering the debut of "Red Tails," which recounts the World War II deeds of the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of black pilots, with $18.8 million.
The two new films pushed last week's top attraction, Mark Wahlberg's crime drama "Contraband," to third place with $12 million over the weekend.
"Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close," the Tom Hanks-Sandra Bullock story of a family impacted by the 9/11 attacks, brought in $10 million in its first weekend of wide release.
Rounding out the top 10 were action flick "Haywire" ($8.4 million), "Beauty And The Beast" in 3D ($8.8 million), "Joyful Noise" ($5.9 million), "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" ($5.6 million), "Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows" ($4.5 million) and "The Iron Lady" ($3.7 million). (AFP)

Sao Paulo kicks off week-long fashion fiesta
SAO PAULO: Latin America's premier fashion event launched a week-long celebration of Brazilian creativity, style and glamor Thursday, dogged by perennial questions over a lack of racial diversity.
Sao Paulo Fashion Week (SPFW) opened the 32nd edition of its winter collection at a cavernous hall in Ibirapuera Park, broadcast live on the Internet for the first time, to showcase Brazilian designers.
Until next Tuesday, it will highlight some 30 labels, including Animale, Tufi Duek, Alexandre Herchcovitch, Gloria Coelho or Fernanda Yamamoto, Reinaldo Lorenco, in South America's largest metropolis of 20 million people.
"Brazil is going through a very privileged moment," said SPFW's creative director Paulo Berges, referring to the country's boom that has propelled into place as the world's sixth biggest economy.
But as occurred at the Rio fashion show last week, the celebration was marred by charges of racism in the Brazilian fashion world because the overwhelming majority of models are white in a country where more than half of the population is of African descent.

50 years of Bond cars on show in UK
LONDON: The largest collection of James Bond vehicles in the world opens to the public on Tuesday in Britain featuring classics such as the Aston Martin DBS from "Quantum of Solace."
From earlier Bond films, the Phantom III Rolls-Royce from "Goldfinger" and the Lotus Esprit S1, which takes a trip into the sea with Roger Moore at the wheel in "The Spy Who Loved Me", are also among the 50 vehicles on show.
The "Bond in Motion" show at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu, southeast England, marks half a century of 007 films.
Also featured are the vintage 1962 Rolls-Royce from "A View To A Kill" which was pushed into a lake by Bond's foes Zorrin and May Day, played by singer Grace Jones, with Bond still inside.
The premiere of the exhibition on Sunday was attended by Bond stars such as Britt Ekland who played Bond's bumbling accomplice Holly Goodnight in "The Man With The Golden Gun."
The exhibition also showcases boats, motorbikes, sledges, jets and parachutes used in Bond films.
Sarah Wright, a spokeswoman for the National Motor Museum, said: "We anticipate many people coming through our doors to come and see one of the most unique exhibitions in the world."

Stars light up red carpet ahead of Golden Globes
LOS ANGELES: Hollywood A-listers including George Clooney paraded up the Golden Globe Awards' red carpet on Sunday ahead of the ceremony honoring the year's best films and TV shows hosted by acerbic comedian Ricky Gervais.
The British funnyman returns to the Golden Globe stage for the third straight year to host the champagne-soaked bash where prizes are given to actors, actresses, directors and producers in precursor of the more staid Oscars later this year.
Along with Clooney, Angelina Jolie, Meryl Streep, Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and numerous others were expected to walk the fashion-filled red carpet ahead of dinner and the program.
Gervais arrived early in a crimson and black tuxedo, Clooney looked dapper in gray. "Modern Family" TV star Sofia Vergara showed off a form-fitting, teal-colored Vera Wang gown and Harry Winston jewels.
Many actresses wore strapless dresses or had plunging necklines and hand-tied bowties were a must among men. Even Uggie the dog from most-nominated film "The Artist" put his four paws on the carpet -- black tie around his neck, of course.
While movies, TV shows and celebrities capture the limelight at the Golden Globe Awards, all eyes will be on Gervais this year after his caustic sense of humor and teasing of stars last year tweaked the sensibilities of some celebrities. He hadn't been expected to return, but here he is.
"I did it because the media said I wouldn't come back. I'm here to annoy them," Gervais said on the red carpet before the big show. When asked about his opening routine, he repeated statements he's made in recent weeks.
"I don't think I'm going to push the boundaries, more of the same, I think. I didn't think I said anything outrageous last year," he said.
The Golden Globe Awards are given out by the roughly 90 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association at what annually is among the key events during Hollywood's awards season because of the media exposure it brings.
OSCAR INFLUENCE?
Honors bestowed on TV shows often lure audiences that can turn a little-seen program into a hit, and films and stars that are declared Golden Globe winners often go on to compete for Oscars, the world's top movie prizes given out later this year.
But veteran Hollywood awards watcher Tom O'Neil of website Goldderby.com notes that in recent years, as more awards shows have aired on TV and Oscar organizers have made changes to their nomination process, the HFPA's influence has waned.
"Six of the last seven years they haven't picked the same best movie. 'Slumdog Millionaire' is the only one," said O'Neil.
Silent-era film "The Artist," a romantic tale shot in the style of old Hollywood, heads into Sunday night's ceremony with six nominations, including best comedy or musical. Late last week, it was named 2011's best movie at the Critics' Choice Awards and appears a good bet to take the Golden Globe for best musical or comedy.
HFPA voters also pick a winner of best film drama, and "The Descendants," starring Clooney as a father trying to keep his family together during a crisis, has the strongest shot at walking off a victor, O'Neil said. Although civil rights drama "The Help" also has been well-received in Hollywood this year.
Among actors and actresses, Meryl Streep looks to be a good pick to claim the trophy for best actress in a drama playing former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady." She faces a challenge from Viola Davis in "The Help," after Davis also picked up the Critics' Choice trophy.
Michelle Williams competes for best actress in a movie musical or comedy in "My Week with Marilyn" against the likes of "Saturday Night Live" comedian Kristen Wiig for "Bridesmaids."
Clooney with "Descendants" takes on Leonardo DiCaprio for "J. Edgar" and Brad Pitt in "Moneyball" in the best drama actor category, and "Artist" star, Frenchman Jean Dujardin, is the odds-on bet for best actor in a film musical or comedy.
Among TV shows, thriller "Homeland" is one of the new shows competing for best drama, taking on others such as "American Horror Story" and "Game of Thrones." Best comedy nominees feature past favorites such as "Glee" and "Modern Family."

Shilpa Shetty confirms pregnancy
New Delhi, Dec 10 (IANS) The stork has come calling in B Town again! This time it is Shilpa Shetty.
Shilpa has confirmed she is pregnant with her first child with businessman husband, Raj Kundra.
'Tweetos, 'YES' an addition to our family is our confirmation to all queries :)We seek blessings from all in this very beautiful phase of our lives,' Shilpa made the announcement on Twitter.
The 36-year-old actress-turned-businesswoman, who became a popular face in Bollywood with films like 'Main Khiladi Tu Anari', 'Baazigar', 'Dhadkan' and 'Life...In A Metro', married Kundra in 2009.
Rumours of her pregnancy have been doing the rounds for long now, but Shilpa had publicly denied the news last in September this year.
Good wishes for the couple have already started pouring in on Twitter.
'SO happy 4 my friend @TheShilpaShetty and her husband Raj, for the new, on the way, angel of happiness,' posted Shilpa's good friend, actress Raveena Tandon.
Filmmaker Ken Ghosh tweeted: 'So happy for @TheShilpaShetty and Raj - as they are expecting their first child - God bless!'
Actresses Lara Dutta and Celina Jaitley are currently expecting, while Aishwarya Rai recently gave birth to a baby girl Nov 16.

'War Horse' royal premiere held in London
LONDON: Prince William and his wife Catherine on Sunday attended the British premiere of Steven Spielberg's new film War Horse along with 600 serving and ex-serving military personnel and their families.
Spielberg said it was "an honour" to be attending his first royal premiere with the Duke and Duchess as he made his way in the rain down the red carpet at London's Leicester Square.
The US director also praised the couple's "wonderful" gesture to invite soldiers to the event. "It's a great honour that they've (William and Kate) given up their time and also given up their charity and it's wonderful because it was their idea to bring the veterans here, so they could share this evening," he said.
The movie tells the story of Joey, a horse raised on the English countryside who is torn away from his home -- and stable lad Albert -- and sent to France to the battlefields of World War I.
The story follows Albert on his mission to find his equine partner amid the blood, mud and misery of the Great War.
Spielberg used celluloid film to record the movie, which received a Golden Globe nomination this month ahead of its Christmas Day release in the United States, to give it an old-fashioned feel.
The Hollywood heavyweight said filming the movie was "a beautiful, beautiful experience."
"All these actors, every single one in this movie bonded with Joey," he added. "If I could do it all over again, I would only do it again so I could repeat the experience."
Joey was played by around a dozen horses from all from around the world, notably Spain. Stable boy Albert is played by 21-year-old British actor Jeremy Irvine, who had previously only worked in TV.
The movie, which follows on a hugely successful Broadway and West End show, also features Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch, Emily Watson and David Thewlis.
Most critics so far have been broadly positive, although some have questioned Spielberg's approach, like the Guardian's newspaper critic Andrew Pulver, who said the director "can't seem to snap out of a now-habitual mode of vitality-erasing, dewy-eyed affectation."
The Duke and Duchess attended in aid of the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry, the charity set up by the royal brothers in 2009.
The servicemen and women invited to the premiere came from the Duke's regiments.

French Revolution drama to open Berlin film fest
BERLIN: A drama set around the French Revolution starring German-born Hollywood actress Diane Kruger as Marie Antoinette will open next month's Berlin film festival, organisers said Wednesday.
"Les Adieux a la reine" (Farewell My Queen) by French director Benoit Jacquot will kick off the 62nd edition of the Berlinale, as the event is known, on February 9, the festival said in a statement.
The period drama features Kruger, previously seen in "Inglourious Basterds", Lea Seydoux, who appeared in last year's Woody Allen hit "Midnight in Paris", and Virginie Ledoyen, best known to international audiences for her turn in "The Beach" with Leonardo DiCaprio.
"In a screen adaptation of Chantal Thomas' prize-winning novel of the same name, French director Benoit Jacquot portrays the first days of the French Revolution from the perspective of the servants at Versailles," the festival said.
"With ironic overtones, a historical drama unfolds that also draws parallels to the present."
The French-Spanish co-production will appear in competition for the festival's prestigious Golden Bear top prize, to be awarded February 18 before the event wraps up the following day.
British director Mike Leigh will chair the jury while two-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep will accept an honorary Golden Bear.

Britney Spears to marry boyfriend
LOS ANGELES: "Oops, I Did it Again" star Britney Spears is ready to marry for a third time, after accepting boyfriend and former agent Jason Trawick's proposal, the couple announced Friday.
Trawick, who Spears has been dating since 2009, announced the news on entertainment TV show "Access Hollywood," saying: "Yes, we are engaged," adding that he was "over the moon, as (is) she."
The 30-year-old singer then took to her Twitter page to express her excitement.
"OMG. Last night Jason surprised me with the one gift I've been waiting for. Can't wait to show you! SO SO SO excited!!!! Xxo," she tweeted to her 11.8 million followers on the micro-blogging site.
Trawick, 40, said he popped the question in a very traditional manner -- down one on knee -- adding that Britney's sons, six-year-old Sean Preston and Jayden James, five, witnessed the proposal.
The ex child star, whose hits include "Baby One More Time" and "Womanizer," has been married twice before: infamously for 55 hours in 2004 to childhood friend, Jason Alexander, and then to Kevin Federline, father of her two sons.
The so-called "Princess of Pop" has rebuilt her career over the last few years, after a prolonged period of turmoil in her private life following her 2006 split from Federline.

Shah Rukh and Lady Gaga had a conversation in an Indian private TV programme. During their one-hour chat, Gaga confessed that she would love to be part of a Bollywood movie and Shah Rukh replied that he would love to cast her as his lead actress.

Veena to sue FHM India for Rs 50 crore
MUMBAI: Veena Malik has announced to sue FHM India magazine for Rs 50 crore, accusing it of morphing her photo, Geo News reported.
Veena initially sued the magazine for Rs 100 million after which the magazine sent a legal reply to Meera over threatening to sue her for Rs 250 million.
In legal reply to her notice, FHM India categorically denied that her photo had been morphed, and said that Malik was the one who had initially pursued the magazine for a shoot.
Talking to Geo News, Veena Malik said that she had objection on only one photo. She said that Indian magazine was silent on the signed agreement between them, adding that she would now sue the magazine for Rs 50 crore.
