Bali bombmaker jailed for 20 years

(eNews.pk) - JAKARTA: An Indonesian court convicted bomb-maker Umar Patek to prison 20 years in prison Thursday for his role in the Bali bombings of 2002, ending a 10-year probe into the deadliest act of terror in the nation .

Patek, 45, was convicted of six counts, some of which related to the two suicide bombings in a nightclub and bar on Bali that killed 202 people including 88 Australians.

"We condemn Umar Patek to 20 years in jail," said the judge Encep Yuliardi West Jakarta District Court.

Patek was convicted of premeditated murder related to the Bali bombings and other charges related to the Christmas Eve bombings in 2000 in several churches that killed 19 people in Jakarta.

Upon hearing his fate, Patek stood and shook hands with the judges and prosecutors, "before embracing his own attorney and walking past reporters outside the court.

His lawyer told AFP Hatjani Asludin he would conduct a consultation with the Patek and his family on Friday to discuss whether his client would appeal.

جکارتہ ... انڈونيشيا کي ايک عدالت نے 2002 بالي بم دھماکے کے ملزم عمر پاٹيک کو جرم ثابت ہونے پر 20 سال قيد کي سزا سنائي.45 سالہ حسيام بن علي زين ،عمر پاٹيک کے نام سے مشہور ہيں اور القائدہ ے منسلک تنظيم Jemaahاسلامي کے اہم رکن ہيں.انڈونيشيا کي ايک عدالت نے انہيں 2002 ميں بالي ميں ايک نائٹ کلب پر حملے ميں استعال ہونے والي کار بم کو تيار کرنے ميں مدد فراہم کرنے اور 2000 کو جکارتہ ميں کرسمس کي تقريب کے دوران چرچ پر حملے ميں ملوس ہونے کے جرم ميں مجرم قرار ديا ہے. بالي دھماکے ميں 2سو 2 افراد اور چرچ پر حملے ميں 19 افراد ہلاک ہوئے تھے. جس ميں 88 آسٹريليا اور 7 امريکي شہري بھي شامل تھے. عمر پاٹيک کو گزشتہ سال پاکستان سے گرفتار کيا گي تھا..فلپائن سے تعلق رکھنے والي عمر پارٹيک کي بيوي روقيہ پر امريگريشن کي خلاف ورزي کرنے کے جرم ميں27 جنوري کو دو سال تين ماہ قيد کي سزا سنائي گئي تھي. پاٹيک کے مطابق کار بم تيار کرنے ميں ان کا کوئي اہم کردار نہيں تھا.
