The Chairman of the Pakistani Telecommunications Authority (PTA), Maj. Gen. (ret.) Amir Azeem, warned on Tuesday that social media websites and online gaming platforms in the country would be closed due to the non-cooperation of the companies concerned.

He said this while speaking to a group of Youtube vloggers about Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Arsalan Khalid social media Arsalan Khalid, who asked him to discuss restrictions on social media platforms.

The proposed rules and regulations for social media websites were also discussed at the meeting. The PTA chairman said there was no way to immediately restore the PUBG game because the gambling business did not work with the local authorities.

“We will not restore the gaming platform until the company has received an appropriate response,” he said.

Amir Azeem said they will respect court orders and carry them out, but they have received some complaints from various circles about PUBG.

The Punjab police also spoke to us about suicide cases related to the PUBG game and warned against filing cases against the company in the event of non-compliance.

He said the social media platforms have no offices or agents in Pakistan.

The PTA chairman said that they were not in favor of restricting social media sites on the other hand, and that they would also work with the authorities.

“In this scenario, we have the last option to ban the website for non-collaboration.”

In addition, the YouTube authorities are not offering effective collaboration, he said, while shedding light on the Apex court’s reservations about the material published on the website, declining to receive instructions on how to ban YouTube in the region.

Amir Azeem said Tik Tok and Bigo had started working with local authorities, and the former had also removed 3.8 million complaints links.
