However, experts believe that the concept of herd immunity may be helpful as many people may stop following COVID-19 SOPs to control infectious diseases.
Dr Hassan Urooj, a public health expert treating COVID-19 patients in Islamabad, claimed that it was technically impossible for herdsmen to gain immunity in urban areas of the country. I
Immunization can only be achieved in an ideal environment in which people do not often go in and out of a particular area. Take Islamabad, for example, where a large number of people work in the federal capital but live in rural areas.
Although a certain percentage of the population in Islamabad has been vaccinated, this does not mean that only urban dwellers are vaccinated as those who come to work from the surrounding rural areas are also vaccinated in the city.
It can never be said that 50 or 60 population of Islamabad has been vaccinated because people from KP, Azad Kashmir and other areas come to the capital for work.
Hassan said the new forms pose a major threat to herd immunity as existing vaccines against the corona virus have not been effective against them, urging officials to stop using the term “herd immunity”.
