The Billion Tree Tsunami project planned by the PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has revealed irregularities. It was found that the required number of plants had not been planted in some districts. The Ministry of Forests has taken measures and suspended 35 employees from their work.

According to the Chief Conservative Officer of the Ministry of Forestry, special measures are being taken to curb illegal logging across the province. In the past two months, not only have many people been severely punished, but 35 officials have been suspended after acknowledging several public complaints.

Citizens say that while the forestry department’s performance was not ideal, the main problem with illegal logging is that the large fish can be run freely. They say the department needs to take more drastic measures to bring about significant changes.

According to environmental experts, forest cover in each country should be 25%, while forest cover in Pakistan is only 6%. After the success of the billion tree tsunami project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, however, the province’s coverage has at least increased from 20.3% to 26.6%.
