According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), inflation has risen by 14.48 per cent year-on-year.

The data released by the Pakistan Bureau of State Stats (Bureau of Statistics) compared the prices of food items and other important items from October 22 last year to October 21 this year.

In this regard, it was informed that on a year-on-year basis, inflation has increased by 14.48% while for low income people, it has reached 15.72%.

According to the statistics agency, the price of LPG has increased by 75% and the price of electricity by 61.11% during the last one year.

The Bureau of Statistics has also reviewed the prices of petroleum products as compared to the previous year and the prices of petrol have gone up by 32.22 per cent and diesel by 28.91 per cent in one year.

However, prices of some products also declined, with the price of washed peanuts falling the most by 32.05 per cent, while the price of dal mash fell by only 1.59 per cent.

In terms of vegetables, tomatoes became cheaper by 30.44 per cent, while onions became cheaper by 28.30 per cent and potatoes by 21.87 per cent.

The Bureau of Statistics released a weekly report on inflation, which showed a further 1.38 per cent rise in inflation in the country in just one week.

In the recent one week, the prices of 29 items have gone up and in one week, the average price of tomato has gone up by Rs 27.56 per kg, after which the average price of tomato in the country has gone up to Rs 93.77 per kg.

He said that a domestic cylinder of LPG went up by Rs 154.15 while ghee went up by Rs 6.67 and sugar by an average of 42 paise per kg.

Petroleum products and garlic have also become more expensive in recent weeks, while potatoes, eggs, milk, yogurt, mutton and lentils have also become more expensive.

In one week, the prices of 7 items declined, with chicken at the top where live chickens became cheaper by an average of Rs6.34 per kg.

Similarly, a 20 kg bag of flour became cheaper by Rs 2.19 while dal gram, dal mung, onion and gar also became cheaper.

According to the statistics agency, prices of 15 items remained stable during the last week.

It should be noted that the sharp depreciation of the rupee and the appreciation of the dollar have led to a sharp rise in commodity prices in the country in recent times.

Despite all efforts, the government has failed to stem the rising value of the dollar and the failure to negotiate with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has led to fears of further appreciation of the dollar.

Government members of parliament and senior ministers have already called inflation a global problem and hinted that inflation is unlikely to ease in the coming months.

Recently, Federal Minister for Planning Asad Omar had said that there is no possibility of reduction in inflation in the next few months. The recent rise in inflation is not a domestic but a global problem.

He termed the inflation in Pakistan as lower than other countries and said that the smart lockdown in Pakistan did not increase the prices as much as the non-smart lockdown in other countries.
