Around 5,000 stranded British travelers would fly home from Pakistan after the British government announced nine additional charter flights on Saturday.
According to a statement by the British government, this includes the first charter flight from Karachi to Great Britain, which departs on April 30, as well as further departures from Islamabad and Lahore.
Around 2,500 people have already booked the government’s ten charter flights, which take place between April 21 and 27. This second phase of the flights, announced today, will carry more than 2,250 travelers.
The new flights are as follows:
April 30: Karachi to London, Islamabad to Manchester
May 1: Lahore to London, Islamabad to Manchester
May 2: Islamabad to Manchester, Lahore to Manchester
May 4: Islamabad to London
May 5: Lahore to Manchester, Islamabad to Manchester
The statement says there is great demand for these flights. Lahore and Islamabad seats are now assigned to those who are already registered through the government’s online booking website.
The British Minister of State for South Asia and Commonwealth Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon said 10,500 British citizens have flown home from Pakistan with commercial options and more than 2,500 have flown on charter flights.
“This remains an extremely challenging logistical operation. I am grateful for the cooperation between the Pakistani authorities, the patience of the British people we are working on, and the hard work of those who make it possible, ”he added.
The British High Commissioner for Pakistan, Christian Turner, said that more than 10,500 people have returned home commercially since the closure of airspace in Pakistan. By Monday, we expect another 2,500 British nationals to fly back to the UK on our first 10 charter flights.
“We know there is more to do, and I am pleased that there will be another nine charter flights next week, eight from Islamabad and Lahore; and one from Karachi to London Heathrow.
“When we start the holy month of Ramazan, a time for people to reunite with their families and a time to think, I’m happy that travelers can come home and be with their loved ones during this special time.”
The price of a ticket for each flight is between £ 498 and £ 522.
