بنگلہ دیش میں یونیورسٹی کے 20 طلباء کو سزائے موت سنادی گئی
A Bangladeshi court on Wednesday sentenced 20 university students to death for the brutal murder of a young man criticizing the government on social media in 2019.
According to the foreign news agency ‘AFP’, the mutilated body of 21-year-old Abrar Fahad was found in his university hostel when he wrote a Facebook post in which he asked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to share water with India. Was criticized for signing the agreement.
Student Abrar Fahad was beaten by 25 members of the student wing of the ruling Awami League with a cricket bat and other items for six hours.
Fahad’s father, Barkatullah, told reporters outside the courthouse after the verdict, “I am happy with the verdict, I hope the sentences will be handed down soon.”
Prosecutor Abdullah Abu said the other five convicts had been sentenced to life in prison.
All of those on death row are between the ages of 20 and 22, and they studied with Fahad at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology.
Three of the accused are still at large while the rest were in the courtroom.
Defendant’s counsel said that an appeal would be lodged against the sentence.
Fahad had posted a post on Facebook a few hours before his death which went viral.
In the post, Fahad criticized the government for signing an agreement allowing India to draw water from a river on the border between the two countries.
In the leaked CCTV footage which went viral on social media, Fahad was seen in a hostel with some BCL workers.
About 6 hours later, the students pulled out his body and laid it on the ground.
The BCL has become notorious in recent years when some of its members have been accused of murder, violence and extortion.
In 2018, its members reportedly used violence to quell a major anti-government student protest, which began after a high-speed bus struck and killed a student in protest of a lack of road safety measures. ۔
Demonstrators demanded harsher punishment for the attackers and a ban on the BCL.
Hasina Wajid had vowed immediately after the attacks that the killers would receive “the greatest punishment”.
The death penalty is common in Bangladesh where hundreds of prisoners are awaiting execution, the death penalty is carried out by hanging, the death penalty law is a legacy of the British colonial era.
In August, a court sentenced six religious extremists to death for the brutal murder of two gay rights activists.

طالب علم ابرار فہد کو حکمران جماعت عوامی لیگ کے طلبہ ونگ کے 25 ارکان نے کرکٹ بیٹ اور دیگر اشیاء سے چھ گھنٹے تک پیٹا۔
فہد کے والد برکت اللہ نے فیصلے کے بعد عدالت کے باہر صحافیوں سے گفتگو کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ میں فیصلے سے خوش ہوں، مجھے امید ہے کہ سزائیں جلد سنائی جائیں گی۔
پراسیکیوٹر عبداللہ ابو نے کہا کہ دیگر پانچ مجرموں کو عمر قید کی سزا سنائی گئی ہے۔
سزائے موت پانے والے تمام افراد کی عمریں 20 سے 22 سال کے درمیان ہیں اور انہوں نے فہد کے ساتھ بنگلہ دیش یونیورسٹی آف انجینئرنگ اینڈ ٹیکنالوجی میں تعلیم حاصل کی۔
تین ملزمان تاحال مفرور ہیں جبکہ باقی کمرہ عدالت میں ہیں۔
