LONDON: Swedish climate activist Greta Thonberg said on Saturday that protests against the Black Life Matter showed that society had reached a “turning point” in which injustices were finally fought. ۔

In an interview with the BBC, the 17-year-old said: “It feels like we’ve reached a turning point in society where people are slowly realizing that we’re not backing down. Can. “

“We can’t shake these things, these injustices under the carpet.”

Thunberg’s interview was broadcast as world capitals were preparing for another weekend of anti-racism protests following the killing of a white police officer by armed African-American George Floyd.

British protesters overthrew a slave trader in the 17th century, and the Church of England and the Bank of England regretted taking advantage of the sale of Africans to the United States.

Protesters in Washington on Friday tore down a statue of a southern general defending slavery during the US Civil War and set it on fire.

“People are looking for their voices to understand that they can really make a difference,” Thunberg said.

He also expressed astonishment at the depth of poverty in the United States, which he discovered while traveling in an electric car with his father when he borrowed money from former California governor and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

“People were shocked to hear that they could not afford to put food on the table,” he said.

More protests are planned in London and the Scottish capital, Edinburgh, on Saturday.
