Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called for a solution to the decades-old Kashmir dispute between Pakistan and India on the basis of UN resolutions.

Addressing the 76th session of the 193-member UN General Assembly, he said, “Our position is that dialogue between the parties and the framework of relevant UN resolutions should solve the problems that have been going on for 74 years in Kashmir.

He said that Turkey is with the Kashmiris to resolve the Kashmir issue and apart from the five major powers, the world is also a big one.

He said, “We believe that despite the challenges we face, it is possible to promote justice in the world. Together we can build a world where there is peace, stability, prosperity and happiness.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been raising the issue of Kashmir at the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly.

In last year’s meeting, he said the Kashmir issue is important for peace and stability in South Asia and is still a burning issue.

He further said that the steps taken to end the special status of Occupied Kashmir have further complicated the issue.

His support for the Kashmir issue was strongly opposed by India, which claims that Jammu and Kashmir is its internal matter.

On the other hand, Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, Secretary General of the World Kashmir Awareness Forum in Washington, welcomed the Turkish President’s mention of the Kashmir issue and said that his words encouraged the Kashmiri people.

He said President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s message is intended to promote dialogue between all sides on the conflict.

Ghulam Nabi Fai said, “This is the only way to achieve real and lasting peace in this long-standing conflict. The Kashmiri people have been suffering for a long time.”

He said that Kashmiri people deserve peace and this is their demand.

It is noteworthy that more than 100 world leaders are attending the United Nations General Assembly in person, while attendance in the meeting hall has been kept low due to precautionary measures against the corona virus.

Prime Minister Imran Khan will address the General Assembly via video link on 24 September.
