The Human Rights Watch (HRW) struck the Modi government’s restrictions on Kashmiris living in Indian-occupied Kashmir (IoK) on Tuesday.

“The [Indian] government’s unjustified restrictions on freedom of expression, access to information, health care and education have been exacerbated by the Covid 19 pandemic,” said an HRW statement.

The report said the Indian government arrested thousands of people, stopped telecommunications services, and restricted freedom of movement and public gatherings.

The HRW described India’s notorious public security law as “draconian” and found that thousands had been arrested in occupied Kashmir and three former prime ministers and more than 140 children had been detained since the modes unilaterally government.

The human rights organization mentioned allegations of torture and ill-treatment against the Indian security forces and abuse of riot laws to curb peaceful, dissenting voices.

“In June, the government announced a new media policy in Jammu and Kashmir that would allow the authorities to decide what is” false news, plagiarism, and unethical or anti-national activity “and to take punitive measures against the media, journalists, and editors . Read the HRW statement.

The HRW found that the coronavirus pandemic, its debilitating economic impact due to the closure of the territory and the shutdown of Internet services by the Indian government had made life difficult for people, especially in the fight against COVID-19.

“Doctors complained that the lack of internet affected Covid-19’s response. “It’s a new virus – research, studies, guidelines, and updates change every other day,” said a doctor, according to HRW.
