Budget 2020-21 will Present in 1st Week of June

Finance and Revenue Adviser, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh said in a conversation with a private media channel that the federal government will present the 2020-2021 budget to parliament in the first week of June 2020, taking into account the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on people and businesses in the country.

The consultant said, “This is the” Corona budget. “Therefore, we want to alleviate the suffering of our employees and give them hope, give them cash and food, and offer them employment opportunities.”

In the past, austerity measures have been the dominant feature of the budget, and spending needs to be better spent to avoid wasting public money. Added that the public money would be spent to alleviate the sufferings of those affected.

Abdul Hafeez said it was a great economic principle to use government spending to put money in people’s hands that would help create economic activity and jobs and help fight the recession.

He said that the budget for the next fiscal year would also include a balanced approach to tax collection, adding that the government would adopt a strategy to document the economy, but it would not be so strict that it would result in corporate suffering would. He said the government would do its best to raise taxes appropriately to support economic growth.

He said that consulting the provinces would introduce measures to improve agricultural productivity, boost industry and exports. He added that “the real actors are business people, investors, exporters, workers and farmers.”

The consultant said that the country must focus on improving business relationships with other countries, as no country can make any progress in the current era alone. He also stressed the need to increase exports, reduce imports and incentivize the emigrant community to invest in Pakistan and to open up businesses here.

He said the government is developing an economic policy for the common good, adding that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has cut interest rates, while the government has also announced aid plans with the basic aim of ensuring that economic activity is not severely affected.

He stressed the need to strike a balance between health and economic activities and said the government must take care to protect people from COVID-19 effects while saving the country’s economy.

He said the prime minister has consistently emphasized that wisdom is needed to take action to generate economic activity that does not affect health.
He said that after the current difficult period, the government will focus in a few months on strengthening the long-term trend of the economy to ensure people’s well-being.
