ISLAMABAD: The hearing of the suo moto notice of graft case involving son of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry got underway here at the Supreme Court, Geo news reported.
The three-member bench hearing the case is headed by the chief justice himself and also include Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif.
Arsalan arrived at the SC building with his lawyer Sardar Ishaq Advocate. Although, business tycoon Malik Riaz was absent, his Principal Staff Officer said he could not be contacted.
At the outset of the proceedings, the CJ remarked that if Arsalan found to be involved in the scam the law will talk its course.
On this, the Attorney General Irfan Qadir said to the chief justice that he cannot be part of the bench. The CJ replied that the court is aware of the code of conduct but it is a matter of the honour of the institution.
The AG, while addressing the CJ said you are getting emotional on the matter that is why I am of the view that the chief justice should not sit in the bench. Justice Jawwad Khawaja observed that we do not need to get emotional.
After days of the capital being abuzz with rumours of a mega corruption scandal allegedly involving his son, the CJ took suo moto notice of media reports and summoned Arsalan Iftikhar Chaudhry, Bahria Town chief executive Malik Riaz, and Attorney General Irfan Qadir.
The electronic and social media have in the last few days been rife with reports about Arsalan Iftikhar allegedly receiving millions of rupees from the Bahria Town management under different pretexts in order to influence the apex court in favour of Bahria Town cases pending with the SC.
There were also allegations that the Bahria Town management financed multiple foreign trips taken by Arsalan and the CJ's family members and also paid for hotel and rented accommodation and cars. Additionally, there were reports of Arsalan receiving about Rs340 million in different heads from Malik Riaz.
When approached, Arsalan denied many of the allegations but confessed to some of them saying that this was his personal business dealing.
According to family sources, Malik Riaz is currently in Dubai.

اسلام آباد…سپريم کورٹ ميں ارسلان افتخار سے متعلق از خود نوٹس کي سماعت جاري ہے اور چيف جسٹس افتخار محمد چوہدري کي سربراہي ميں 3رکني بينچ کيس کي سماعت کر رہا ہے. بينچ کے ديگر اراکين ميں جسٹس جواد خواجہ اور جسٹس خلجي عارف شامل ہيں، جبکہ ملک رياض عدالت نہيں پہنچنے. سماعت کے ابتداء ميں عدالت نے استفسار کيا کہ ملک رياض گذشتہ 6ماہ ميں کتني بار بيرون ملک گئے، جس پر پرنسپل اسٹاف آفيسر نے کہا کہ ملک رياض گذشتہ 6ماہ کے دوران ابھي بيرون ملک گئے ہيں. چيف جسٹس نے ريمارکس ديئے کہ يہ سياسي معاملہ نہيں ہے، ڈاکٹر ارسلان ملزم ہوا تو قانون کے مطابق کارروائي ہوگي. اس موقع پر اٹارني جنرل کا کہنا تھا کہ ضابطہ اخلاق کے مطابق چيف جسٹس اس مقدمے کي سماعت نہ کريں. چيف جسٹس نے ريمارکس ديئے کہ ہميں ضابطہ اخلاق کا علم ہے، يہ معاملہ ذاتي نہيں ،ادارے کي عزت کا ہے. اٹارني جنرل نے چيف جسٹس کو مخاطب کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ آپ جذباتي ہو رہے ہيں اس لئے کہ رہا ہوں کہ چيف جسٹس بينچ ميں نہ بيٹھيں، اس پر جسٹس جواد خواجہ نے ريمارکس ديئے کہ ہميں جذباتي ہونے کي ضرورت نہيں. واضح رہے کہ ذرائع کے مطابق چيف جسٹس افتخار محمد چوہدري نے اپنے بيٹے ڈاکٹر ارسلان افتخار اور ملک کے ايک بزنس مين ملک رياض حسين کے حوالے سے ميڈيا ميں آنے والے خبروں کا نوٹس ليتے ہوئے انہيں نوٹس جاري کرتے ہوئے عدالت طلب کرليا ہے .کيس کي سماعت آج کھلي عدالت ميں ہوگي.اٹارني جنرل کو بھي نوٹس جاري کيے گئے ہيں.ميڈيا ميں ان دنوں ڈاکٹر ارسلان اور ملک رياض حسين کے درميان ايک ڈيل کي خبريں گردش ميں ہيں جس ميں ڈاکٹر ارسلان نے ملک رياض سے مبينہ طور پر کروڑوں روپے ليے،شاپنگ يا غير ملکي دوروں کا الزام عائد کيا جارہا ہے جو عدالتي فيصلوں پر اثر انداز ہوسکتے ہيں.اس وقت ملک رياض حسين پر عدالت ميں کئي کيس زير سماعت ہيں .
