Traders and exporters have termed the sudden rise in interest rates as detrimental to the economy and the export industry.

The decision of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) to increase the interest rate to 8.75% after raising the interest rate by 1.5% to 1.5% is detrimental to the economy and the highest production cost for the export industry. The cause is declared.

Kati President Salman Aslam said that the export industries were already facing difficulties and in such a situation a sudden increase in interest rates of 1.5 per cent would further increase the cost of production, giving industrialists expensive loans from banks which would lead to industry. Will face more difficulties.

He said that the monetary policy was expected to increase by 50 to 100 basis points but this unexpected decision taken by the SBP has raised concerns among the industrialists. An increase in exports is essential for the recovery of the economy, for which cheap loans are of paramount importance. However, monetary policy has been tightened due to increase in trade deficit and inflation.

He said that the industrialists were ready for all possible cooperation with the government to control inflation. The government should ensure cheap loans for the export sector so as to increase exports, increase foreign exchange reserves and strengthen the value of the dollar.

Kati President Salman Aslam appealed to the government to reduce the interest rate to 8% so that loans would be cheaper and small and medium enterprises would continue to use their full potential.

It is to be noted that the interest rate was increased by 1.50% by the State Bank of Pakistan yesterday after which the interest rate became 8.75%. The interest rate has been fixed for 2 months.
