Army helicopter shot down by rebels near Damascus

(eNews.pk) - DAMASCUS: Syrian rebels said they shot down an army helicopter during fierce fighting in Damascus on Monday, saying it was to avenge the "slaughter" of more than 330 people in the city of Daraya attributed to regime forces.




State television said the plane crashed near a mosque in the eastern district of Qaboon, where activists reported bombing, heavy fire by helicopter gunships and clashes between government troops and the rebel Free Syrian Army.
"It was in revenge for the slaughter Daraya" said Omar al-Qabooni spokesman Badr Battalion of the FSA in Damascus AFP, adding that the rebels had found the pilot's body after the helicopter crashed into the ground in a ball of flames.
