‘Short order convicting PM unlawful’

(eNews.pk) - LAHORE: Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leader Aitzaz Ahsan said the punishment meted out to Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani in contempt of court case is unconstitutional and unlawful, adding that the short order cannot be delivered in criminal cases.




Talking to media here outside the Lahore High Court (LHC), the PM Gilani's counsel said the premier could not have been sentenced in the absence of a detailed verdict. He said short orders were not issued in criminal cases and that the prime minister's sentencing was against the law.
Ahsan said "the prime minister has a number of options to choose from, including one of filing an appeal challenging the verdict."
He said that it was up to the speaker's discretion whether or not to send a disqualification reference in this case.

لاہور…پيپلز پارٹي کے رہنما سينيٹر اعتزاز احسن کا کہنا ہے کہ شارٹ آرڈر کے ذريعے سزا سنانا خلاف قانون اور غير آئيني ہے. وزيراعظم يوسف رضا گيلاني کو اگر چھ ماہ يا زيادہ سزا بھي ہوتي تو وہ بھي انھوں نے کاٹني تھي معافي کي اپيل نہ کرتے.لاہور ہائيکورٹ ميں ميڈيا سے گفتگو کرتے ہوئے اعتزاز احسن کا کہنا تھا کہ مشاورت کي جارہي ہے عدالتي فيصلے کے خلاف اپيل کرنے سميت کئي آپشنز موجود ہيں. فوجداري مقدمات ميں شاٹ آرڈر نہيں ہوتا. صدر ، وزيراعظم اور عدالتوں کو چاہئے کہ آئين کے مطابق چليں. اعتزاز احسن کا کہنا تھا کہ سپيکر اسمبلي کو مکمل اختيار حاصل ہے کہ وہ وزيراعظم کي نااہلي کا ريفرنس اليکشن کميشن کو بھجوائيں يا روک ديں.
