Lahore police have registered an FIR against religious cleric Allama Zubair Ahmed Zaheer and his associates for beating up a SAMAA reporter.

The FIR was registered by SAMAA reporter Sidra Ghayas at Naseerabad police station in Lahore.

On Monday, Ghayas, his brother and two companions were beaten by men in Lahore.

The reporter was on his way home from work with his brother when the incident took place in Firdous Market.

The correspondent said he was driving on a congested road and signaled for the vehicle to go ahead, giving way, which enraged the driver and he stopped the car.

“Five or six people got out of the car and started hitting our car,” Ghayassaid. He said two of his companions were also beaten when they came to his rescue.

The footage shows Allama Zubair Ahmad Zaheer, a leader of the Central Jamiat Ahle Hadith, standing with the attackers.

“We are police officers,” the correspondent quoted the attackers as saying. “We’ll see you (we’ll deal with you),” he said.
