The Taliban government has issued an order regarding women’s rights, directing that women be given a share in property and that marriages be arranged according to their wishes.

According to the international news agency, an order has been issued by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan instructing the citizens that their consent should be obtained for the marriage of girls.

Violators of the order will be punished.
The statement issued by Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said that woman is not a property but a great and free creature which can be handed over to any other party in exchange for peace or to end enmity.

The order further states that women should not be forced into marriage and widows should be given a share in the property of their late husbands.

The Taliban spokesman’s statement clarified women’s participation in marriage and property, but did not say anything about girls’ education, employment or involvement in government.

It should be noted that since taking power in Afghanistan on August 15, no country has recognized the Taliban government. International powers say the decision to recognize the Taliban will be based on their treatment of women.
