The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has given an approval of increase in electricity tariff by Rs 2.51 per unit in the September fuel adjustment.

Electricity distribution companies Discos held a public hearing on requests for monthly fuel charge adjustment for the month of September.

NEPRA officials said that the Central Power Purchasing Company (CPPA) had requested to increase the price of electricity by Rs2.66 paise.

Officials said that the violation of merit order in September caused an additional burden of more than Rs 2.7 billion, the shortage of LNG caused a burden of more than Rs 1.10 billion, the demand for LNG was 950 and the supply was 660. MMCFD was.

At the hearing, the Chairman NEPRA said that where is the Managing Director of National Power Construction Corporation (NPCC)? Is a seminar in a private hotel more important or a NEPRA hearing? Start taking things seriously.

The Chairman NEPRA asked the NPCC officials why the use of furnace oil was so high that the NPCC officials said that the use of furnace oil was due to increased demand and outage of some plants.

The Additional Secretary Power Division said that the demand for electricity has increased by 7% in September while the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) has been disrupted.

Vice Chairman NEPRA said that your demand is 950 MMCFD and Sui Gas gets 800 MMCFD, which means that the demand has not been met.

The Additional Secretary Power Division said that until the new terminals are built, there will be obstacles in the supply of LNG.

On this, the Vice Chairman NEPRA said that this means that consumers will have to continue to pay capacity payments.

Vice Chairman NEPRA further said that increase in fuel prices increases the price of electricity, if cheap electricity comes in the system then expensive electricity will be eliminated, hopefully it will improve.

NEPRA said that the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had requested an increase of Rs2.65 per unit, while according to NEPRA’s data, the increase was Rs2.51 per unit.

NEPRA said that in August, one rupee was charged at 95 paise per unit in the case of FCA. In September, the charge in FCA may be 56 paise more than in August.

Later, in the context of September’s fuel price adjustment, electricity was given a hike of Rs 2.51 per unit.

The increase will not apply to Lifeline customers of Electric, while consumers will have to pay in next month’s bills. NEPRA will issue a detailed decision on the increase in electricity rates later.

Interestingly, the share of hydropower supply increased to 36.24 per cent in September from about 35 per cent in August and there is no price for this fuel.

According to the CPPA, the total production of energy from all sources in September was 14,032 gigawatts per hour at a cost of Rs 95.36 billion or Rs 6.80 per unit.
