Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) Athar Minallah, while delivering an 11-page judgment, directed the Fuel Crisis Committee to meet the legal requirements of a transparent trial and refrain from making unnecessary statements so as not to affect the petitioners’ right to a fair trial.

The court directed the oil companies to co-operate with the government during the inquiry, saying that it was the government’s responsibility to investigate the matter after the crisis, as the government was responsible for disrupting the supply of petroleum products to the public. In the petrol crisis, stockpiling and black marketing cannot be ignored. There is nothing illegal in the government setting up a committee to determine those responsible.

It should be noted that the government has initiated action against oil companies after the shortage of petroleum products.
