The governor of Sindh, Imran Ismail, passed the Corona Emergency Aid Ordinance 2020 on Friday. The regulation was sent to the governor for signature after approval by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. According to the new regulation, the fine for violating a clause has been increased to one million rupees. In addition, school owners would have to cut fees by 20%.
According to the regulation, a landlord has to postpone or suspend the collection of rental payments below 50,000 rupees and reduce it by 50% if the rent is 100,000 rupees. This does not apply if the owner is a widow, a disabled person and an elderly person. Similarly, the regulation made it mandatory for the private sector not to be able to fire or dismiss its employees, while private companies are also required to pay their employees salaries on time. There are no water bills for the more than 80 square meter premises.
On April 27, the provincial cabinet approved the draft ordinance with the aim of relieving the population during the closure in the province. However, the governor of Sindh, Imran Ismail, rejected the relief ordinance and returned to the provincial government with objections. The federal government is responsible for reducing electricity and gas bills. He also said that the federal government has already announced relief for those affected by the lockdown.
